Under Office Memorandum No. 19 dated August 8, 2019 Acting Provincial Governor Shirley A. Abundo issued Executive Order No. 19 Series of 2019 declaring every Friday of August and September as Anti-Dengue Day in the province of Catanduanes.

The E.O. directed all heads of offices to require their employees to implement the DOH Sabayang 4 o’clock Habit Para Deng-Get Order Clean Up Drive in their respective offices or areas of jurisdiction for a maximum of four (4) hours effective August 9.

Said E.O. released by Provincial Administrator Ireneo B. Panti Jr. through Memorandum No. 19 required employees to search and destroy all mosquito breeding sites in their respective offices or areas of jurisdiction as one of the primary interventions to prevent and control dengue in the entire province.

“In each Friday of August and September all government agencies, local government units, schools, offices and communities shall make available their Fridays to do volunteer work within their sphere of authority to search and destroy mosquito breeding sites. The clean-up drive shall be for a minimum of two hours to a maximum of four hours,”the E.O. added.

The Acting Governor likewise directed widest possible traditional and social coverage in order to bring the information to all Catandunganons in this E.O. dated August 7.

Said memo also directed the HRMO to monitor and render report of compliance to the provincial administrator.

In a letter dated August 8, 2019, Acting Provincial Governor Shirley A. Abundo informed PBM Edwin T. Tanael, Committee on Tourism chairman, regarding the conduct of a Provincial Tourism Awareness and Consultative Meeting on August 19-20, 2019 at Kemji Resot, Virac, Catanduanes.

This two-day tourism event supposed to be conducted by the provincial government in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, Region V, aims to orient and re-familiarize the participants with the programs, projects and activities of the DOT and thereby maximize service delivery outputs, the acting governor said.

However, in response to said letter of the acting governor, PBM Tanael requested the deferment (postponement) of said tourism event as it coincides with his agenda of requesting the presence of Supervising Tourism Operations Officer, Ms. Carmel B. Garcia, in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan 8th Regular Session to shed light on the status and plans of provincial tourism office under her leadership and supervision.

Unfortunately, said intended presentation by Ms. Garcia did not materialize due to the comment and recommendation of PBM Rafael Zuniega that it be calendared for a Committee hearing with the presiding officer approving said recommendation by the former.

Instead, the supervising tourism officer furnished the Board members a copy each of the plans and status prepared by her office for information and perusal. The postponed two-day tourism event is re-scheduled sometime in November this year.
