The Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) presented the working prototypes of the license card and vehicle plate manufactured by the PCOO before the Committee on Transportation today.
The Committee on Transportation, through Chairman Cesar Sarmiento, had been pushing for the said government-to-government transaction for four weeks now, stressing that it is one of the “low-lying fruits” the government can solve even without emergency powers.
The PCOO and LTO stated that the working prototypes they presented concern the quality of materials they are working on, not necessarily the design. The design, especially for the plates, will still follow the new ones already distributed by the LTO.
The LTO submitted a timeline for the production of license cards that will cover even the backlog. As to the plates, the Committee on Transportation has recommended to the LTO that production should start within this year.
The Committee on Transportation is monitoring the issue on a weekly basis until the production of plates and cards meet the volume demanded by the public. The Committee has previously stressed that the issue on plates and cards has earned the ire of the public on top of the inconvenience caused by the traffic crisis.
