The Rotary Club of Catanduanes chapter inducted its new president, Dr. Aurora Araojo, in a ceremony held at Rakdell Inn on July 7, 2024.

The event was attended by the irresistible district governor Arnold Mendoza , who served as the inducting officer. Dr. Araojo takes over from outgoing president Maria Cleofe R. Laynes, who has laid down a strong foundation for the organization.

In a surprising turn of events, the Rotary Club of Virac welcomed an unexpected yet determined new president for the Rotary Year 2024-2025. The theme for this year, “The Magic of Rotary,” aptly reflects the extraordinary circumstances that led to the appointment of the new president, whose initial role was as Secretary-Elect under the term of President-Elect (PE) Normilyn Z. Marino.

The story began approximately three months ago when the new president attended a PESECTS training session for incoming club officers in Batangas City. Although initially preparing to serve as Secretary-Elect, a sudden health advisory for PE Normilyn led to an unforeseen leadership shift. During a board meeting in early May, it was announced that PE Normilyn would need to step down for health reasons, and the board unanimously nominated the new president to take over the role.

Despite initial hesitation and a lack of training for the presidency, the new president accepted the challenge, buoyed by the support of past presidents and fellow Rotarians. This unexpected transition underscores the adaptability and resilience of the Rotary Club of Virac.

Reflecting on the journey to becoming president, the new leader shared personal apprehensions about joining Rotary initially, believing it was an exclusive group. However, these misconceptions were dispelled upon experiencing the welcoming and supportive nature of the club. Encouraged by past president Ma. Theresa Sarmiento and reassured by the principle that everyone has something to give, the new president embraced Rotary’s mission wholeheartedly.

The acceptance of the presidency is seen as a providential opportunity to serve, guided by faith and a commitment to making a positive impact. The new president emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration, inviting all members to be co-pilots in achieving the club’s goals.

Under the leadership of District Governor Arnold Mendoza and with the dedication of the Rotary Club of Virac members, the new president expressed optimism for a successful and “magical” Rotary Year. The roadmap for the year includes various projects and activities aligned with Rotary’s areas of focus, ensuring that the club’s efforts are impactful and meaningful.

The new president extended heartfelt thanks to the club members for their unwavering support and participation in recent activities, expressing confidence in sustaining this momentum throughout the year. The new president’s vision for the Rotary Club of Virac is one of unity, enthusiasm, and a joyful approach to service, embodying the true spirit of Rotary.

Outgoing president Laynes expressed her gratitude to the Rotarians for their exemplary cooperation during her tenure, which she found truly inspiring. The guests praised the dedication of the Rotarians on the island, noting their active participation and clear sense of purpose.
