Civil society organizations, religious leaders, sectoral representatives, and families of tokhang victims have formally filed the first-ever impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte in the House of Representatives.
The complaint outlines four main grounds for impeachment: culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption, bribery, betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes.
Former Senator Leila de Lima also expressed her support for the impeachment. “Public office is not a throne of privilege; it is a position of trust. Sara Duterte has desecrated that trust with her blatant abuses of power. This impeachment is not just a legal battle but a moral crusade to restore dignity and decency to public service,” she said.
Akbayan Representative Perci Cendaña endorsed the complaint to the Office of the Secretary General. “I stand in full support of the brave citizens calling for Duterte to answer for her blatant violations of the Constitution, egregious corruption, and complicity in mass murder,” Cendaña stated.
The impeachment complaint aims to address the alleged wrongdoings of the Vice President and seek justice for the families affected by controversial policies of the administration. All eyes are now on Congress as it moves forward with the process. (Gary Alejano Photo)
