MANDALUYONG CITY — The Provincial Government of Catanduanes and the City Government of Mandaluyong successfully formalized their sisterhood agreement today, marking a significant step toward strengthening ties and cooperation in governance, tourism, disaster response, and other areas of mutual interest.
Catanduanes Governor Patrick Alain T. Azanza led the provincial delegation during the signing ceremony. The governor personally expressed his appreciation to Mandaluyong officials for their warm welcome and continued support for the people of Catanduanes.
Among those thanked by Governor Azanza were Mandaluyong Mayor Menchie Abalos, Congresswoman Queenie Gonzales, Vice Mayor Antonio Suva, former Vice Mayor Jesse Cruz, members of the City Council, and Cabinet Secretary Benhur Abalos.
Joining the Catanduanes delegation were Acting Vice Governor Fred Gianan; Provincial Board Member Joy Tamayo; League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Catanduanes Chapter President and Pandan Mayor Paolo Teves; Virac Mayor Samuel “Posoy” Sarmiento; Provincial Tourism Officer Carmel Bonifacio Garcia; PTO staff members Marianito Icaro and Mills Ang Espina; and Carlo Batalla.
According to Governor Azanza, the sisterhood agreement is particularly beneficial to Catanduanes, noting Mandaluyong’s long-standing support for the province, especially during disasters and other times of need.
“This is a significant development for Catanduanes because Mandaluyong has always been there to support our province, especially during times of disaster,” Azanza said.
As part of the agreement, the Mandaluyong City Council also turned over copies of its resolutions to Acting Vice Governor Fred Gianan. The documents are expected to serve as references and guides in developing policies and programs that may be adapted and implemented in Catanduanes.
Governor Azanza also announced that the provincial government is targeting the establishment of similar sisterhood agreements with nine other cities in Metro Manila, with the aim of expanding opportunities for cooperation, knowledge exchange, and the improvement of public services.
The agreement is expected to open more opportunities to strengthen cooperation between Catanduanes and other cities in Metro Manila in the areas of economic development, tourism, governance, and disaster preparedness and response.
