The latest data released by the health authorities in the province is very alarming. The 271 and more than 300 dengue cases in the municipalities of Virac and San Andres, respectively, are more than enough to cause an alarm and compel them to act with dispatch.

Nevertheless, we would like to assume that the alarming cases of dengue cases, if not outbreak, in our island province would be contained as soon as possible.

For one, the 4S which include the following: (1) search and destroy; (2) seek early consultation; (3) self-protection measures; and (4) say yes to fogging. These have been explained thoroughly to the barangays through the RHU-initiated barangays summit.

Not only that. Provincial health authorities led by PHO chief, Dr. Hazel Palmes together with Dr. Elba Joson, RHU-Virac and Dr. Ariel Acompaniado, RHU,LGU-Baras  attended the SP, Committee on Health hearing presided by PBM Santos Zafe. They reportedly sought the financial assistance of the provincial government.

Let’s hope and pray that this alarming dengue problem in our province would be contained as soon as possible. That this plague will spread in the other municipalities.

Time is essential when lives are at stake. We hope and pray that the provincial leadership in solidarity with the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

Dr. Hazel Palmes’ message to the Committee hearing was very clear: Dengue containment is not the sole concern of health authorities and barangay officials. It is every households concern. The 4 o’clock habit should be followed seriously by every households in the affected barangays/municipalities.
