Virac, Catanduanes – Sakaling umusad na ang implementasyon ng mga proposed projects at possible investments sa bagong tatag na Agro-Industrial Economic Zones ng Catanduanes State University (CatSU) malaki umano ang magiging papel nito tungo sa pangarap na maging lungsod ang bayan ng Virac.
Sa ekslusibong panayam ng Radyo Peryodiko at Bicol Peryodiko kay CatSU President Dr. Patrick Alain Azanza, sinabi nito na aprubado na ang pagiging eco-zone ng CatSU at hinihintay na lamang nila ang presidential decree na ipapalabas ni Presidente Rodrigo Duterte.
Kasama sa ikakasang proyekto ay ang Taiwan-based proposed project sa CatSU ricefield sa tapat ng Virac Airport na magsisilbing demo farm at tourism attraction sa lalawigan.
“Remember the ricefield of CatSU along the main highway across the airport? This will be how it would look like as part of the approved Knowledge Innovation Science and Technology (KIST) Park under PEZA. We are now on the planning stage so we can implement and open in a few months’ time”, pahayag ni Azanza.
Dahil dito, nagsagawa na ng mga preliminary meetings ang tanggapan ng CatsU sa Taiwanese Group maging sa tanggapan ni Governor Boboy Cua upang plantsahin ang proyekto.
Sa disenyo ng proyekto, maliban sa pagiging demo farm ay gagawin itong isang parke na siyang magiging tourism attraction at entertainment center sa upper portion ng Virac. Nakatakdang imbitahan ang ilang malalaking franchise restaurants sa loob at magiging exhibit area ito ng mga proyektong Catandunganon kagaya ng abaca.
“There will be three (3) exclusive restaurant locators (first come, first served although we prefer major brands to come in like McDO, Jollibee, Angel’s Pizza or maybe Mister Donut) in the area and one exhibit hall while the middle part will be an open activity area with a unique Abaca-inspired design. There will be tables and benches for family visitors. At night, the place will be transformed into a lighted theme park which will be an attraction by itself”, dagdag pa ng opisyal.
“There will be a spot for agricultural/flower propagation demo areas for edu-tourism as well. There is also transfer of knowledge and technology component. Known-You-Seed Co. Ltd of Taiwan will train 10 CATSU-BGS Staff; and also 10 CATSU agriculture students who will eventually be hired by the Taiwanese company after the training”, paglalahad pa ni Dr. Azanza.
Kasama rin sa mga target ng CatSU na maging self-sufficient sa vegetables ang lalawigan na hindi kailangan pang umangkat sa labas ng isla na siyang kasalukuyang Sistema ngayon.
Samantala, para maging self-sufficient sa kuryente ang CatSU, meron na ring ikinakasang solar power an off-grid at on grid. Ibig sabihin, magkakaroon ng sapat na suplay ng kuryente ang CatSU na hindi na masyadong nakadepende sa Ficelco, bagkus sa mga renewable energy. Kasama rin ang Wind Power Energy sa mga posibleng pumasok na proyekto bilang tugon sa power suplay sa lalawigan.
Dahil ditto, pinasalamatan ni President Azanza sina Governor Cua at Congressman Hector Sanchez sa full cooperation ng mga ito sa mga mahahalagang hakbangin ng CatSU management. Maging ang mga alkalde kagaya nina Mayor Posoy Sarmiento, Mayor Peter Cua at iba pang alkalde ay pinasalamatan ng opisyal sa pakikiisa sa mga proyekto ng CatSU.
Hindi umano ito kaya ng CatSU management lamang, subalit dahil sa tulong ng iba’t ibang sector mapapagaan ang mga mahahalagang hangarin sa lalawigan.
Aniya, maliban sa academic development naias ding makabahagi ang CatSU sa economic at community development ng lalawigan. (FB)
