LEGAZPI CITY – The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Bicol recorded a fatality as well as one missing and four injured persons as a result of Tropical Storm Paeng’s onslaught on Saturday.

Gremil Alexis Naz, OCD-Bicol spokesperson, said in a report on Sunday Ronito Arguelles, 60, drowned in floodwaters at the height of the storm in Mandaon, Masbate.

Jasper Montañez, of Mercedes, Camarines Norte, was declared missing while four persons were injured in Sorsogon City.

“The reported dead and missing are subjects for validation by the Management of the Dead and the Missing cluster led by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) while the injured will be validated by the Department of Health,” Naz said.

OCD-Bicol recorded 28,462 families or 111,579 individuals who fled their homes due to the typhoon. Of the total, 26,486 families or 103,390 people transferred to evacuation centers.

Meanwhile, Naz said “as of 11 a.m. Sunday, based on Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) report, all Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals (TCWS) in Bicol are now lifted. Roll-on, Roll-off (RORO) trips to and from Albay, Catanduanes, Masbate, and Sorsogon have resumed.”

On Saturday, Paeng first made landfall in Virac, Catanduanes, at 1:10 a.m. and made a second one in Caramoan, Camarines Sur at around 1:40 a.m.

The storm is now over the West Philippine Sea and may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday morning, according to the 5 a.m bulletin of PAGASA. (PNA/ Connie Calipay )
