The Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Election in the province of Catanduanes was conducted peacefully on Monday, October 30, 2023.

According to data from the Catanduanes Police Provincial Office (CATPPO), there were no Election-Related Incidents reported in the province from the start of the election period until yesterday, the day of the voting.

Although there were minor glitches, such as sudden power outages, these were temporary in nature. There were also intermittent heavy rains in various parts of the province and strong waves that resulted in slight delays in delivering some election returns and paraphernalia, particularly in the island of Palumbes, Barangay Toytoy in the town of Caramoran.

However, according to the leadership of the Philippine National Police (PNP), the election in the province was peaceful due to the diligent supervision of the COMELEC and the assistance of partner agencies.

Ensuring security were personnel from the Philippine Army, Philippine Coast Guard, Provincial Explosives and Canine Unit, Provincial Highway Patrol Team, Aviation Security Unit, Provincial Forensics Unit, Bureau of Fire Protection, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Unit, and various Force Multipliers.

The CATPPO, led by PCOL Benjamin B. Balingbing Jr., considers this a success for the people of the province who showed discipline and support for the conducted activity.

“The election in the entire province can be generally described as peaceful, something that all agencies and our citizens who were part of this important national event can be proud of,” he stated.

The leadership will remain vigilant for any incidents and important activities until the election period concludes on November 29, 2023.
