The Provincial Sports Meet (Palarong Panlalawigan) in Catanduanes was formally opened at 7 in the morning. The event was led by high-ranking officials from the Department of Education (DepEd), headed by Division Superintendent Socorro Dela Rosa.

The opening of the sports meet commenced with a parade in the Poblacion ng Virac, followed by the district presentation of delegates, lighting of Friendship Urn and the hoisting of the flag by their respective district supervisors.

In an interview with Radyo Peryodiko, DepEd Catanduanes Sports Officer Fidel Vegim stated that there are a total of 3,433 delegates from the eleven towns of Catanduanes participating in the 3-day event from December 27-29, 2023 with 619 gold medals.

In their messages, local officials expressed their admiration for the athletes and provided inspiration for a successful sports meet. Governor Joseph C. Cua emphasized that this is an opportunity for the athletes to showcase their talents and abilities, which can later be a source of pride for the people of Catanduanes.

Congressman Leo Rodriguez, on the other hand, highlighted that sportsmanship and camaraderie are integral to the design of the sports meet. Mayor Sammy Laynes warmly welcomed and paid tribute to each delegation from various municipalities. As the host municipality, they are prepared to take on the responsibility for the security of the participants.

Division Supt. Socorro Dela Rosa joyfully shared the opportunity to fully restore the operation of the Provincial Sports Meet after several years of limitations due to the pandemic.
