CATANDUANES — The municipality of Virac was proclaimed Over-All Champion of the Provincial Selection Meet 2026 (Regular Sports) after topping the overall medal standings against 10 other municipalities.
This was based on the official final results released by the Department of Education (DepEd) – Schools Division Office of Catanduanes, Clerk of Course, at 5:00 p.m. on January 24, 2026.
Virac secured Rank 1 Overall with a total of 204 medals, composed of 101 gold, 50 silver, and 53 bronze, underscoring its strong and consistent dominance in both elementary and secondary divisions.
Placing second overall was Caramoran with 142 medals (55 gold, 55 silver, 32 bronze), while Viga claimed third place with 132 medals (51 gold, 38 silver, 43 bronze). Pandan ranked fourth with 126 medals, while San Andres completed the Top 5 with 100 medals.
Rounding out the overall rankings were Bagamanoc (6th), Bato (7th), San Miguel (8th), Baras (9th), Panganiban (10th), and Gigmoto (11th).
In the Elementary Division, Virac also led the standings with 73 medals—42 gold, 19 silver, and 12 bronze—which served as a solid foundation for its overall championship.
Caramoran placed second in the elementary category with 80 medals (41 gold, 32 silver, 7 bronze), followed by Viga with 50 medals (13 gold, 15 silver, 22 bronze). Pandan ranked fourth with 45 medals (13 gold, 11 silver, 21 bronze), while Bato finished fifth with 38 medals (12 gold, 15 silver, 11 bronze).
Virac further cemented its dominance in the Secondary Division, topping the category with 131 medals, including 59 gold, 31 silver, and 41 bronze—the highest total in this division.
Viga placed second in the secondary division with 82 medals (38 gold, 23 silver, 21 bronze), followed by Caramoran in third with 62 medals (14 gold, 23 silver, 25 bronze). Pandan finished fourth with 81 medals (21 gold, 30 silver, 30 bronze), while San Andres secured fifth place with 65 medals (23 gold, 20 silver, 22 bronze).
The Provincial Selection Meet serves as the primary basis for selecting athletes who will represent Catanduanes in higher-level competitions, including the Palarong Bicol. According to education officials, the results reflect the continuing improvement in the province’s sports programs and the dedication of athletes, coaches, teachers, and local government units.
The official results were prepared by the Clerk of Course Committee headed by Efren O. Matienzo Jr., with Juan G. Boridas and Chanda D. Soliveres, recommended by Fidel A. Vegim, School Principal II (DSO), and approved by Mary Jean S. Romero, Chief of SGOD.
As the provincial meet concludes, selected athletes are expected to undergo intensified training as Catanduanes sets its sights on upcoming regional and national competitions.
