In our country the month of June primarily focuses on educational concerns, be it public or private. Although free education is already In full implementation of the K-12 program realized through the collective efforts of the executive and legislative branches of government of the Duterte administration, this is still a priority concern of parents nationwide in view of the related expenses they’ll have to shoulder before the start of classes in June 4.
Hence, the continuation of the 4Ps program implemented and strengthened by the present dispensation, irrespective of the lapses and shortcomings of its program implementation by the DSWD as one of its mandated functions. These concerns and issues have been reported and tackled by DWSD, R-5 led by RD Alex Garcia with Ms. Emily Mendoza as one of the resource persons during the 2018 DSWD Media Forum held last week at Rhaj Executive Inn and Apartelle, Gogon, Virac.
The more than 20 million pupils/students enrolees who’ll simultaneously trooped to schools, colleges and universities nationwide is a testimony of the Filipinos love for education as great equalizer. That awesome, gargantuan cadres of young hopefuls is indeed a great force to reckon with DepED and CheD should attend to with dispatch and utmost concern. It would be an immense reservoir of law-abiding, credible, idealistic, responsible would-be leaders.
Equally important in this month, where June brides are an obsession , is that it is an “Environment Month” officially declared by the United Nations. Nowadays, as in the past, environmental concerns had been the focus of attention by the UN-sponsored COP Treaty in view of the irreversible effects of climate change and the 6-month closure of well-known world class Boracay Beach Resort grimly described by PDU30 as a cesspool.
Hence the need for environmental education, regulations and monitoring by policy-makers and implementors by government insstrumentalies, specifically DENR, PNP and AFP and academe-based scientists ecologists/environmentalists and various NGO-environment-oriented entities.
Education as equalizer and the environment as represented by Mother Earth/Nature should go in hand in in combatting ignorance, poverty and environmental abuse and degradation. The government and the private sector are there obliged to muster their collective efforts in addressing problems relating to education and the environment.
