Provincial Board Member (PBM) Robert A. Fernandez appealed to the assistance of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (Provincial Council) and relevant agencies to allocate funds for the construction of a river control system in San Miguel, Panganiban, Catanduanes, and other barangays in the town of Panganiban.

During the 23rd Regular Session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on June 5th, the board member proposed an amount of 30 million pesos to be allocated to the office of OIC-District Engineer Denis Cagomoc of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – District Engineering Office in Catanduanes. This funding is intended to protect the residents of Barangay San Miguel, Panganiban from the dangers brought by heavy rainfall.

Due to its geographical location, the lives and properties of the residents are at risk, especially during intense rainfall that leads to flooding. The absence of flood control measures also puts infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, and government facilities, at risk and hampers accessibility to deliver basic necessities to the people during emergency situations.

Earlier, a similar request for assistance was made to Congressman Eulogio “Leo” R. Rodriguez through SP Resolution No. 600-2022 on August 8, 2022, with the same amount of 30 million pesos.

In addition to the San Miguel area, the board member also included in the request to the DPWH other infrastructure projects, including a 200-meter flood mitigation structure in the neighboring barangay of Mabini, Panganiban, Catanduanes, estimated at 25 million pesos, and 30 million pesos for the Mabini River Control Structure.

The resolution aims to gather support and prompt action from the relevant authorities to address the urgent need for river control infrastructure in the area to ensure the safety of residents, protect vital infrastructure, and prevent incidents from occurring. (Kap JP/Translated by BPNewsteam)
