VIRAC, CATANDUANES – Atty. Septon A. de la Cruz, former Officer-in-Charge of Catanduanes State University (CatSU), formally transferred administrative responsibilities to Dr. Roberto B. Barba Jr., the newly appointed Officer-in-Charge, during a turnover ceremony held on January 9, 2025.
In his farewell remarks, Atty. de la Cruz expressed confidence in Dr. Barba’s leadership and emphasized the importance of securing the administration’s support and streamlining processes for more effective governance. “I wish Dr. Barba success in his new role and encourage him to unite the community and improve operations to ensure the continuous growth of CatSU,” de la Cruz stated.
Dr. Barba graciously accepted the new responsibilities and committed to upholding the university’s high standards while driving its mission for excellence. “I am focused on strengthening our academic programs, enhancing research facilities, initiating projects for long-term sustainability, and streamlining processes to improve efficiency and provide value-added services,” Dr. Barba declared.
Dr. Barba was appointed as OIC by the Board of Regents (BOR) during a special meeting on January 7, 2025. He will lead CatSU while the selection process for the next SUC President III is ongoing. A seasoned academic and administrator, Dr. Barba has held various key positions, including Dean of the College of Agriculture and Fisheries, Executive Vice President, BAC Chairman, and head of major university projects.
Meanwhile, effective January 10, 2025, Atty. de la Cruz will assume the role of Director of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Cordillera Administrative Region. This reassignment is pursuant to CHED Special Order No. 141, series of 2024, signed by CHED Chairman Dr. J. Prospero E. De Vera III.
