VIRAC, Catanduanes — The Office of the Ombudsman has formally issued an order in connection with the complaint filed against Catanduanes Governor Patrick Azanza, Vice Governor Robert Fernandez confirmed.

Based on documents provided by the Office of the Vice Governor, the complaint stemmed from alleged violations of Republic Act No. 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, particularly Section 3(e), which covers acts involving alleged undue injury or unwarranted benefit through the misuse of public authority.

Aside from the graft charge, the complaint also includes administrative cases such as abuse of authority, disobedience or insubordination, grave misconduct, and gross neglect of duty.

In the Ombudsman’s order, Governor Azanza is directed to submit his counter-affidavit and comments addressing the allegations. The directive also includes issues related to the possible imposition of preventive suspension while the investigation is ongoing.

Vice Governor Fernandez said his office recognizes and respects the legal process being undertaken by the Ombudsman. He emphasized that their side remains open to clarifying the issues and is committed to transparency, legality, and public welfare.

He further assured that normal operations and public services of his office will continue despite the case, and urged the public to avoid speculation and wait for official findings.

Meanwhile, Governor Azanza has declined to issue a statement, saying he has not yet received an official copy of the document. He added that he will fully comply with any formal notice from the Ombudsman once it is properly served.
