PNP Bicol proudly announced that the New Year’s celebration in the region was generally peaceful. Based on the released data from Camp Simeon Ola, this reportedly happened due to the security preparations made by the leadership of Police Regional Office 5 under the command of PNP Regional Director ANDRE P. DIZON.

Among the steps taken by the PNP was the visitation and inspection of all police units, ensuring preparedness for any possible incidents. Under his directive, continuous operations against criminality were carried out, leading to the arrest of lawless elements and the confiscation of relevant evidence. Currently, PRO5 leads in commendations from the Directorate for Operations for its excellence in confiscating mother rockets (boga), securing the top spot with an impressive 562 confiscations.

Following behind are PRO-4A with 333, PRO9 with 125, and PRO6 with 111. Additionally, the Bicol PNP also seized a total of 90 pieces of 5-star firecrackers. Meanwhile, PNP Region 5 reported 31 victims of injuries caused by firecrackers in the region.

This includes one (1) piccolo, ten (10) from 5-star, 2 from giant whistle bomb, 10 from boga, 2 from kwitis, and eight (8) from various categories like fountains, sprinklers, and recycled pulbura.

Regarding the illegal discharge of firearms, a single incident occurred on December 22, 2023, involving an AFP member, resulting in a filed case for violation of slight physical injuries and grave threats, with a recommended bail. Fortunately, no incidents of stray bullets were recorded.

These outcomes attest to the unit’s dedicated efforts in using social media and conducting thorough inspections to remind the public about the prohibition of prohibited firecrackers, ensuring compliance and safety.

With the conclusion of the New Year’s celebration, PNP Bicol will maintain its alert status until next week to provide security for the anticipated influx of passengers in terminals, seaports, and airports. (Bicol Peryodiko newsteam)
