The PNP Catanduanes confirmed that there were three victims of firecrackers in the province during the New Year’s celebration of 2024. According to the official record of the PNP, the firecracker victims are from the towns of Virac, San Andres and Panganiban.

At around 11:30 PM on December 31, the victim of a baby rocket or kwitis from Barangay Danicop, Virac, was recorded, and he was immediately brought to the Eastern Bicol Medical Center at around 12:55 AM. While walking along the road, the victim was accidentally hit on the right foot by a baby rocket. The victim was promptly taken to EBMC for initial treatment.

The victim, identified as Jovy Tabor Del Castillo, immediately went home for home treatment after the wound could not be sutured. Meanwhile, a similar firecracker hit the victim Kristina Lucero Vivo from Barangay Cabcab, San Andres, Catanduanes, at around 12:10 AM on January 2024. The victim suffered a wound on the right foot, causing her to fall.

The victim was immediately taken to JMA hospital by the personnel of MDRRMO Sa Andres. Fortunately, the victim was advised to go home for home medical treatment by the attending Physician, Dr. Aly Romano. In the town of Panganiban, the third firecracker victim was recorded.

Meanwhile, the third case of firecracker injury was recorded in Barangay Bagong Bayan, Panganiban. According to the PNP report, on January 1 at around 12:20 AM, a group of female friends ignited luces (sparklers). The spark was reportedly too strong, hitting the left hand of the victim and causing an injury. At around 3:22 AM, the victim was brought to Viga District Hospital after complaining of pain in her left hand. After undergoing medical treatment, the patient was advised for home treatment.
