Virac, Catanduanes – In a heartwarming display of solidarity, the province of Albay and Valenzuela City have each donated PHP 1 million, along with other forms of aid, to Catanduanes in response to the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Pepito.

These generous donations are part of broader efforts to support the rehabilitation of Catanduanes, including medical missions, mental health support, and other essential services for the affected residents. Acting Governor Glenda Ong Bongao of Albay emphasized that this gesture is not only a response to the disaster but also a way to reciprocate the support received from Catanduanes and other Bicol provinces when Albay was hit by a calamity.

“Helping Catanduanes and other LGUs in Bicol when Albay was struck by a typhoon is something we will never forget. Now, it’s our turn to provide support to them,” said Governor Bongao. She further highlighted that this donation is not just a financial contribution but a symbol of bayanihan (community spirit) and unity in the Bicol region, where provinces come together during times of need.

In addition to the PHP 1 million donation from Albay, the province also organized medical missions and mental health support programs aimed at helping the people of Catanduanes recover not only from the physical damage but also from the emotional and psychological impacts of the disaster.

Meanwhile, on November 24, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian and Vice Mayor Lorie Borja of Valenzuela City also visited Catanduanes, bringing with them PHP 1 million in aid and 1,000 bags of rice from the National Food Authority (NFA). After delivering a message at the Capitol, they conducted a ceremonial turnover of the food packs in the municipality of San Miguel. According to the Senator and Vice Mayor, this act of support is part of their collective compassion for the victims of the typhoon.

This collective support from Albay, Valenzuela City, and other regions underscores the spirit of solidarity and mutual aid in the face of calamities. (FBRIZO)
