As the province’s premier institution of higher learning, the Catanduanes State University (CatSU) earnestly awaits its 50th Foundation Anniversary this coming June 19, 2021 with lots of festive activities subject to health protocols due to the spike of the highly infectious, unseen and vicious coronavirus becoming somewhat alarming in the capital town of Virac and several adjoining municipalities.

By virtue of R.A. 6341 authored by Cong. Jose Mr. Alberto on June 19, 1971, Virac National Agriculture and Trades School (VNATS) was converted into colleges including the opening of rural development high schools province wide.

Historically, that span of 50 years is divided into two stages, to wit: 1) forty-one (41) years as college(s) and; 2) nine (9) years as university in October 2021.

As early last April 2021, the University led by OIC President Freddie T. Bernal has started its countdown in anticipation and preparation of said golden anniversary celebration.

Today’s celebration is doubly significant in view of the search for the second university president whose three aspirants , namely –Dr. Agustin N. Arcenas, Dr. Patrick Alain T. Azanza, and Dr. Marilyn B. Panti, presented their respective vision and mission in a public presentation/forum held on June 8, 2021,  2:00 P.M. at the gymnasium.

Said public presentation were attended by invited provincial leaders, chiefs, heads and/or representatives, PNP and media. The following day, the aspirants finally presented their comprehensive plans for their 4-year stint to the Search Committee for the Presidency.

The choice of the most qualified and best aspirant for the presidency would depend on the 11-member of the Board of Regents (BORs) who are mandated by law to choose from among the candidates. May these 11-member BORs be imbued by the noblest intentions and Solomonic wisdom for their choice of a leader-manager who will chart the destiny of CatSU for the next four (4) years amid covid-19 pandemic.

The management and staff of the Bicol Peryodiko Print and Broadcast Media Services, Inc. await with bated breath and enthusiasm the next CatSU president. Good luck and God bless to the Chosen One.
